SKAL NJ Friendship Trip To Scotland

SKAL NJ Friendship Trip To Scotland

Scotland 2019

By James Dwyer, VP Administartion SKAL USA

Skål International is a worldwide tourism organization with chapters on 6 continents.  Skål Northern New Jersey is one of those chapters or clubs and has a mission.  For the past 15 years members of their group have visited over 30 clubs in Europe in the spirit or friendship and camaraderie.

This April a group of 32 tourism leaders met with members of Skål Scotland. The two largest Scottish cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh were on the itinerary.  Some of the highlights were a tour of Glasgow Cathedral and Kelvingrove Gallery, a cruise on Loch Lomond, and a visit to Auchentoshen Distillery where they had a wee dram.

On the evening of April 7 Skål Scotland President, Ken McNabb, organized a special dinner at the National Piping Centre where they were treated to a traditional Scottish dinner with haggis, neeps, tatties, and were regaled with some wonderful bagpiping, including lessons! (Personal note: It’s a lot more difficult than it looks)

After two days of adventure and history in Glasgow the group headed for Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh.  En route they toured Stirling Castle of Braveheart fame and took a boat ride through the Falkirk Wheel, one of the world’s great engineering feats.  On arrival in Edinburgh the group took a walking tour of the Royal Mile which ended at Edinburgh Castle which stands watch over the city on one of Edinburgh’s seven hills.

Skål’s motto is “Doing Business among Friends” and Skål Northern New Jersey takes this literally.  The annual trips are planned not only for personal fulfillment but for professional enrichment as well.  Friendships and business partnerships are often forged and maintained. Members from the Skål clubs of New York, Philadelphia, and Puerto Rico as well as Myrtle Beach also took part on this year friendship trip.  Many thanks to those who organized the tour and provided another year of great memories.

We've included a few  of our pictures below, with the full gallery linked.  Please enjoy them as much as we enjoyed taking them!
