Brief Job Summary:

The Product Manager is responsible for developing and managing the Topdeck product range associated with the assigned portfolio of business. For the Topdeck North America portfolio, this means designing the best road trips imaginable across the US and Canada! The role requires a thorough understanding of product development, contracting, pricing and schedule management from a group touring perspective and the flexibility to consider varying customer and regional effects on different product ranges. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and additional goals and responsibilities will be outlined as an appendix to this job description.

Excellent relationship management skills are essential to successfully work with internal team members, external suppliers and destination management companies.

The role requires a self-motivated, enthusiastic, highly numerate, analytically-minded person with an astute commercial awareness. A good knowledge of yield management and analytical skills are required to ensure product design and delivery meets growth and profitability targets.

The person will possess excellent planning skills, with an ability to identify market opportunities to improve existing products, and to develop new products.

The role requires excellent attention to detail, methodical research and analysis skills, effective negotiation skills, and a thorough understanding of the youth travel market.

Some international travel will be required for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and finalise all itineraries across the portfolio of product ranges, including research, development and implementation of all accommodation, transportation and activities, ensuring Topdeck are offering a high-standard, innovative touring product.
  • Propose product go-to-market strategies, including target customer groups, recommended sales and marketing strategies, and forecasted performance metrics.
  • Contract all relevant services with suppliers and develop long-term strategic relationships, securing the best possible commercial terms.
  • With the assistance of the General Manager and finance team, complete pricing of trips, ensuring a favorable Gross Profit and competitive sell price.
  • Analyse competitor activity in market and highlight Topdeck differentiators.
  • Diversify and grow the product range aligned with clear target markets.
  • Have a clear understanding of Topdeck’s Unique Selling Propositions (USPs) both globally and specific to the product range.
  • Manage tasks and information required through JIRA software to load all product into Topdeck’s database software, Travel Studio.
  • Work closely with other Topdeck departments (e.g. Sales, Marketing, Operations) to ensure product is represented accurately and being delivered in line with Topdeck standards and core values.
  • Ensure product is developed in accordance with Topdeck crisis management and health and safety guidelines.
  • Attend, where necessary, industry events to assist with product development.
  • Continually analyse customer feedback and implement positive changes ASAP.
  • Manage the yielding of trips to ensure profitable operations and target trip fill rates.

Experience, Requirements and Key Behaviours

  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Previous experience in a product or operations role
  • Knowledge of the North American region and destinations
  • Commercial awareness with strong negotiation skills
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of MS Excel and Word to an intermediate level
  • Previous tour operations and travel industry experience a strong plus
  • Highly-effective project and time management skills. Jira and Asana experience a plus
  • Proven experience in a global team environment a plus
  • University degree and/or applicable travel certificate a plus
  • Ability to work in the United States of America
  • And of course… A passion for all things travel related!
